Why Salicylic Acid is a Good 1st Step for Most People

Over the counter products that are supposed to improve your skin account for billions of dollars in sales every year. Nevertheless, the success rate of most of these products is dismal. In order for any product to truly benefit your skin, it first has to be able to get into your skin. In the United States, any product that claims to be able to penetrate into the skin and cause the skin to improve would be classified as a drug and require a prescription. Even so there is a solution!

The surface of your skin is covered with a layer that is called the stratum corneum. This layer is made of cells that resemble floor tiles. The tiles are connected to each other to form a protective shield. This layer reduces the loss of moisture through the skin. Without this protective layer, your skin would get very dry and start to crack and wrinkle. That is why you can't just scrape this layer off of your skin. Instead, at Epilution Med Spa, we recommend our Step 1 Wash.

The active ingredient in our Step 1 Wash is Salicylic Acid. The Salicylic Acid is able to loosen the bonds between the cells that make up the stratum corneum without injuring the stratum corneum. This effect is temporary, but it will last long enough to dramatically enhance the penetration of other products that you place on your skin. Salicylic Acid is oil soluble. This is important because an oil soluble product can help empty your pores which make the pores look smaller. In addition, Salicylic Acid is extremely good at killing unwanted bacteria on the surface of the skin, which helps reduce breakouts and skin infections.

Not all Salicylic Acid products are created equally. At Epilution Med Spa, we combine moisturizers and antioxidants with the Salicylic Acid in our Step 1 Wash to prevent the wash from drying out your skin. The benefits of the Salicylic Acid will be obtained within 2 minutes of applying the product to your skin. There is no reason to allow a Salicylic Acid product to remain on your skin for more than 2 minutes. Unless you are allergic to aspirin (people who are allergic to aspirin may be allergic to Salicylic Acid), we recommend that your skin care regimen begins with a 2 minute wash with our Step 1 Wash.
