Dysport
A brand of Botulinum Toxin Type A, very similar to Botox. It has been available in Europe for about 20 years. The cost of Dysport is about 1/3 the cost of Botox, but it is also about 1/3 the strength of Botox. The cost to the patient ends up about the same. Dysport does tend to spread through the skin a little further than Botox. In areas such as the armpit (Dysport can be injected into the armpit to treat excessive sweating called dyshydrosis), this can be an advantage. However, in areas such as the forehead, if the Dysport spreads a little too far, it can cause side effects such as a droopy eyelid.
