Dermal Fillers:
FAQ’s...
Q.) What kind of side effects can I get from Juvederm Injections?
A.) Juvederm injections, just like any other injection, can cause some bruising and swelling. The swelling and bruising usually lasts for a few days. We have some special techniques that we use to minimize the swelling and bruising associated with Juvederm injections. More serious side effects such are possible but very rare.

Dermal fillers such as Juvederm are used to provide immediate improvement for wrinkles. Fillers can also be used to enhance the appearance of your lips, hide a bump on your nose, enhance your chin, enhance your cheek bones and more. Dermal fillers are not all the same! There are reasons to choose specific fillers to correct specific problems. Some fillers are better for enhancing the lips. Others last longer. Some stimulate more collagen which may give you less wrinkles even after the filler has dissolved. By looking at your face both at rest and in motion, we can give you advice and choices.
Juvederm is a filler that approved by the FDA in June 2006 for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds (the lines that extend from the corners of your nose to the corners of your mouth).
Juvederm is an injectable gel that is made out of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in all people. Juvederm is biocompatible which means that no skin testing is required prior to receiving an injection of Juvederm.
To correct wrinkles Juvederm is injected under the wrinkle or fold. Juvederm improves the appearance by lifting and adding volume to the wrinkles and folds in the treatment area. After six to nine months, the biocompatible compound is absorbed into the body.
The Juvederm is available in three forms:
- Juvederm 18: a slightly thinner consistency gel that is used to treat fine wrinkles and lines.
- Juvederm 24: a somewhat more dense gel that is used to treat moderate wrinkles and lines.
- Juvederm 30: the most dense form of Juvederm that is used to treat deeper wrinkles and folds such as the nasolabial folds and for enhancing lip volume.
Juvederm appears to last a little longer than some of the other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. In most of our clients, Juvederm lasts about 9-12 months. In some areas such as the lips, the Juvederm does not last quite as long due to lip movement causing the Juvederm to break down faster.
Side effects with Juvederm may include redness, tenderness, bruising or pain at the injection site. If these occur, they usually subside within 3-7 days. More serious side effects of Juvederm injections are possible but rare.
If you have ever had Juvederm (or any other dermal filler) injected into your face, you probably remember that it hurt. Doctors have tried using multiple techniques to reduce the discomfort including dental blocks, local anesthetic injections, topical anesthetics, topical ice and others. All of these techniques have significant drawbacks. We have developed a technique which does not require any of the above techniques and DRAMATICALLY reduces the discomfort. Let us show you that you can have the results you want without the pain. You will be amazed with the results of Juvederm!
